Early Morning Trip to Little Blue

Early in our relationship, David took me on one of my favorite dates. In the early summer morning, we escaped to the cold, clear waters of Little Blue in Disney, Oklahoma. We waded upstream, away from the crowds, and I had only a small point-and-shoot camera with me. As we ventured through the serene landscape, I explained to David how I love to take photos with “layered elements”—the trees, the bridge, the water all coming together to create depth and interest in the image.

This trip marked my return to photography, a skill I had attended school for at OSU IT but had shelved since my first marriage began. In that moment, I gave myself permission to believe that I could return to this passion. It was a turning point for me, not just in reigniting my love for photography but also in understanding the importance of nurturing my own interests and skills.

Over the past years, David has supported my work in photography. He has encouraged my growth, occasionally providing reality checks. He has been my cheerleader during national photography competitions, a reluctant gear wrangler, and understanding as late-night sessions popped up. His unwavering support has been instrumental in my journey back to photography, and I am incredibly grateful for his presence in my life.

Looking back, technically this photo is unremarkable, but for me, it marks a significant turning point. It represents the moment I reclaimed a passion that had long been dormant, and it reminds me of the support and encouragement that has helped me grow.
