A signature scent
I always carry a small bottle of fragrance with me during the hot months. This was especially true when I worked in customer service for the plating industry. Midway through the day, I’d refresh with a single drop of whatever I had on hand. Usually, these were gifts or free samples I didn’t find offensive.
One particular fragrance, Versace Bright Crystal, stood out. It had been a gift for serving as the guest book attendant at my friends Alli and Rich’s wedding years prior. David, my partner, identified this scent as uniquely “me.”
Now, at the time, David and I were trying to keep our relationship under wraps from our coworkers. One day, he sent me a text that read, “Secret is out.” I immediately panicked and asked how. He replied, “Hugs from a hottie.” Apparently, I had hugged him, and someone at work caught a whiff of my perfume on him. So much for our covert romance!
And that’s the story of how I switched from Burberry Brit to Versace Bright Crystal. Because, as it turns out, the scent of “hugs from a hottie” is hard to resist.
Each time I reach for that fragrance I think of this text exchange.
